Honors English 10 is a yearlong college preparation English course for high school sophomores. First semester will include the study of short stories, non-fiction, Arthurian legend, and classical Greek drama. Second semester will include the study of poetry, Shakespearean drama, and a novel. Students will work towards earning their Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM). Each sophomore is expected to produce three writing work samples that meet the performance standards of a score of 4 in each of five areas-ideas and content, organization, sentence fluency, conventions, and citations. Throughout the year, sophomores will have multiple opportunities to meet the performance standards in writing. Students will also be expected to read a novel every six weeks outside of class.
