Sprague Student-Athletes and Families,
We have successfully wrapped up Season 2 sports. We would like to celebrate all our student athletes that participated, especially our seniors, and thank you, parents, for your support during a pandemic. We would also like to thank all of our coaches for their amazing efforts this year in supporting our students during an unprecedented time.
Athletic schedules are posted online with the most up-to-date information for Season 3 (baseball, softball, golf, tennis & track & field) on Salem Keizer Athletics. Please keep in mind that schedules do change for different reasons, even on the day of a competition due to things like weather, COVID protocols, etc. So please go to this website for schedules. We are allowing Season 3 spectators at home games/competitions who comply with properly wearing face coverings and physically distancing of at least 6 feet between families. Please do your part in following this guidance so we can continue to allow spectators. Regarding our away games, some schools will not allow visitors due to site limitations or county restrictions. Coaches will send out this information through the remind app when we are not allowed to travel to a school to watch an event.
Updated COVID information, as it relates to athletics, can be found on the OSAA website.
Locker rooms will be provided for students needing to change at school because they attended the same day. Students may not store personal items in the locker rooms. Students may work with their coach to store items on campus while attending school the same day.
Due to Covid protocols, we do not provide water for student athletes. Please have your son or daughter bring whatever water they need for an athletic event. We do have water bottle filling stations in hallways at our school during the day.
Season 4 athletic registration will open on May 3rd for boys and girls basketball, swimming, and wrestling. We are waiting for guidance from the Oregon Health Authority and the OSAA on a decision for Season 4 as it relates to contact sports. This decision should be made later this month and we will broadcast updated information when it becomes available.
There will be a Sprague Athletic Signing Day on Thursday, May 13th in our Olympic Stadium at 6:30pm. If your student athlete is signing with a university to play collegiate athletics, please submit the players name, university/college name and sport(s) to Tracy Goranson in the Athletic Office as soon as possible so that we can plan for celebrating this accomplishment.
One last thing… if there is a gap in time afterschool between practice or a game, student athletes can sit in the cafeteria and do homework if that helps them out. They would need to sit on a dot on one of the benches to make sure to physically distance and wear a mask.
Sprague competes in the 6A classification Mountain Valley Conference and has a long history of winning district, regional and state level competitions.
