The Sprague High racquetball team came tantalizingly close to a third consecutive national title.
The Olympians finished second in boys, second in girls and second overall in the USA Racquetball-sanctioned event, which concluded Sunday at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland.
A total of 46 schools, including 320 athletes, participated in 875 matches during the five days of competition.
"It was a great team effort," said Bill Edmiston, the club president and one of nine coaches in the Sprague program. "We tried to get that third national title in three years and just missed it. That's just a great season."
Fourteen athletes placed in singles, doubles or both for Sprague, which brought 45 players to the competition.
