Standing Rules

These Standing Rules are effective from June, 2010 and supersede all prior Board resolutions that dealt with matters that supplemented the SKNC By-laws:

1. Luncheon meetings are held the first Thursday of each month (except July and August) at a nearby restaurant or location selected by the Luncheon Director. A social time begins at 11:30 a.m.; luncheon is served at 12 noon, followed by a business meeting and a program.

2. Members who make reservations then do not attend and who did not cancel before the designated deadline will be charged full price for luncheons.

3. Year-around get-acquainted Coffees are held the third Thursday of each month at the homes of various members or at other venues selected by the hosting member.

4. All other Club activities shall set their own schedule for meetings according to their current makeup and needs. Activity groups are open to all members. New groups may be formed when a member presents a written proposal to the board and the board approves the group. Groups will select their Activity Leader (AL) from the regular membership of their activity group. The AL is responsible for maintaining a binder which contains current guidelines for group procedures and a job description for the AL . This binder is to be passed on in a timely manner when a new AL assumes leadership for the group. New groups and groups wishing to change an established meeting day must receive approval from the Activities Director in order to avoid conflicts in scheduling with other activity groups. The Activities Director shall serve as liaison between the board and the activity group leaders. Membership includes attendance at any Club activity, receiving the Club Roster and the monthly Newsletter.

5. Membership dues are $20.00 for the year beginning July 1 and ending June 30. Dues received after June 30 are considered delinquent, and unpaid members will be dropped from membership and not listed in the next year's roster. Delinquent members are required to pay the full year's dues if they subsequently rejoin. Dues may be paid at coffees, luncheons, or by mailing to the Treasurer.

6. The dues for new members joining between July 1 and September 30 will be $20. Beginning October 1 and ending April 30 the dues rate will be as follows: October $18, November $16, December $14, January $12, February $10, March $8, April $6. Those joining May 1, or thereafter, will pay $20 that will include both membership for the remaining Club year and paid-up membership for the following Club year.

7. The President's annual dues and monthly luncheon costs shall be waived while she is in office.

8. All SKNC activities shall be self-supporting with the exception of monthly luncheons and coffees whose expenditures are approved by the board. Only persons whose dues are current may participate. Prospective members may attend no more than three functions prior to joining the club and are responsible for paying any fees associated with those events. Guests accompanying a current member (such as spouses, significant others, visiting family and friends) are welcome to participate on an invitational basis in activities as specified in the activity's description. Activity groups must make every effort to secure any substitute players/participants that may be needed from Newcomers membership. In emergency situations a nonmember may be invited to substitute twice per 12-month period.

9. The Club's Liability Insurance Policy shall be held by the Treasurer for safekeeping.

10. A donation of $50.00 will be sent to the designated charity of a deceased member's choice.

11. The funds dispersed from the Charity Auction proceeds will be made to the selected charities in memory of those who have passed away during the past year.

12. Upon the death of a member, or of one of her family, a sympathy card shall be sent to her or to her immediate family.

13. Sunshine cards shall be sent to members only.

14. Newcomers members may share information with the membership about other nonprofit cultural, civic and charitable groups in the following ways:

a. Announcements about fundraisers, performances, events and need for volunteers may be submitted to the newsletter editor for publication in a community connections column of the newsletter when space is available. These announcements may not be published if all page space is needed for Newcomers information that month.

b. Written information may be distributed at coffees and luncheons if table space is available. Members providing the information are responsible for removing any remaining literature at the end of the event in which it is shared.

Due to time constraints often experienced during business meetings, members may only make oral announcements that pertain to Newcomers activities.

Membership information included in the roster is provided for the exclusive use of the membership and is never to be used for public solicitation for any purpose or shared with anyone who is not a member of Newcomers.
