Super Girls

When we think of great comic book and animated superheroes who comes to mind? Names like Superman or Batman, Ironman, Spiderman, or other manly men with manly names. Ever notice how most superheroes names end in "man?" What kind of sexist rig are we running here?

"But there are girl heroes!" you argue. Of coarse there are. Batgirl, Supergirl, Spidergirl. All large-busted non-carbon copies of their male counterparts. Getting kidnapped whenever you try to do something and wandering around being blond while your man does all the real work is a totally okay image to project on our youth.

That was sarcasm, by the way.

And then someone brings up Wonder Woman.

Yeah, Wonder Woman, she's awesome. She's not anyone's sidekick either. Isn't she a great icon for young girls everywhere? They can grow up to be big and strong just like the boys, right?

Now answer me one question

When did you last see Wonder Woman on TV? Or in a magazine? A newstand comic? Anywhere, really?

It's been a while, hasn't it? It seems the big bad world just can't let the lady fight, can it? They are always the damsel in distress, the dewy-eyed maiden waiting for rescue, the innocent trapped against her will in a world she can't grasp.

POPPYCOCK!! I say. STUFF AND NONSENSE!!

Let the girls fight! Lock the doors and windows it's time for female heroes to take the day.

I am dedicating this site to all of my favorite female heroes, role models for little girls everywhere.
