Oly Lounge History
The Oly Lounge, our student-based enterprise, originated as a coffee and cookie shop in the school cafeteria in 2006, but soon became a hit with students and staff and needed room to develop. The shop needed space that could accommodate both a fun atmosphere and a professional environment to sell tasty food and drinks. Room 160 soon became the new address for the Oly Lounge, and it has since moved to an even larger space now in room 144, on the back end of the library.
In the fall of 2006, with the efforts of former students Arash Afshar, Keri Sime, Stefanie Schmidt, Katie Loney, Allie Gregg, and Ally Wilder, room 160 changed from a storage room to a store. Since then, several students have helped with the growth and expansion of the Oly Lounge. The Oly Lounge has quickly grown and become the hot spot for students and staff alike. Many advances have been made in recent years to enhance the Oly Lounge, with the addition of a state-of-the-art espresso machine and coffee brewer, refrigerator and deep freezer, Vitamix blenders, cookie ovens, and touch screen POS software for the registers.
The Oly Lounge is run by advanced marketing students in a class called Business Operations and Management, who apply for a position the previous year. The students also compete for the role of store manager. The Oly Lounge offers students a real-world working experience and a chance to practice the skills they’ve learned in business class, in a coffee shop setting. The Oly Lounge is open Monday – Friday from 7:00 - 7:20 am before school and also during lunch, and sometimes for special events like our DECA district competition, parent conferences, AVID parent night, etc.
