Volleyball Team

In bold black capital letters on the front of Sprague’s orange practice T-shirts are the words CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS, which is Latin for faster, higher, stronger.

It’s a motto used for the modern Olympic Games, and the words also ring true for the Sprague volleyball team.

Despite being undersized, the No. 9-ranked Olympians (16-6 overall) are tied for first place in the Mountain Valley Conference with No. 7 Summit at 11-1 with two regular- season matches remaining before the Class 6A state playoffs begin.

Senior middle blocker Caiya Ewert is the only 6-footer on the roster, but the Olympians compensate for a lack of height with "scrappiness and defense," junior outside hitter Bridgette Smith said.

“We tend to tire other teams out who are taller than us.”

Senior outside hitter Morgan Doll said the Olympians' speed is another asset against taller opponents because "It helps us get to the ball quicker."
