Sprague Places Second at OSAA Band State Championships

This year , so many of the bands excelled that during the awards, a number of schools could have been called. When it was time to announce second place, last year's top three bands — West Salem, David Douglas and McNary high schools — still hadn't been named. Sterling Sachs, Sprague's percussion leader, had hoped the Olys would at least place.

"I want to show that for a small band, we can compete with the bigger bands and with bigger names. I think we did," Sachs said before the awards. When Sprague won second, the Olys were ecstatic.

Sprague sophomore Tate Wadsworth said, "I didn't think we'd get this far." Junior Jack Edwards added, "It's kind of unreal."
